This blog

Hi - This blog is about the things I photograph. My first digital camera was a 1-megapixel affair that cost me about £90. I came back from Malta in 2005 with what others thought was a masterpiece picture of the streets of Valetta.

I then moved onto an "I.T. Works" 8 megapixels camera that easily slipped into my pocket, and was a steady and sure friend for several years. Its drawback was its heavy use of AA batteries.

In 2013 I decided to get "a proper" camera, and invested in a Canon EOS 450D. In 2017 I obtained a Panasonic Lumix S3 14MP capable of HD quality video, too. I found the handy pocket size and ability to produce movies at 720P at 30fps very useful. However, I soon found that pollen gets in through the zoom producing grey blotches on my pictures, and my one and only attempt to clean it off by taking it apart was a disaster as I could not put it back together again.

In 2020 I picked up a Samsung DV151F from Cash Convertors. This also is capable of 720P MP4 video, and goes up to 16MP for the stills. Very small, and lightweight. A handicap of the video is the sound of the operating the motor on the zoom, and of clicks when I turn the camera off, but with editing on the PC I can get around those problems. I use Audacity to remove background hum when recording outside. So far no pollen problems.
